The Houston Texans are in position for a first-round playoff bye.At least Kevin Byard Jersey , they are right now, after Saturday’s win over the Jets. They need a loss from the Patriots to stay at No. 2 in the AFC.The Browns, meanwhile, have kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a win over the Broncos. Here’s how the playoff picture looks heading into Sunday’s games:1. Chiefs (11-3): Win the tiebreaker with the Chargers based on better AFC West record.2. Texans (10-4): Will clinch the AFC South today if the Colts and Titans lose.3. Patriots (9-4): They’re still heavy favorites in the AFC East heading into Sunday’s big game in Pittsburgh.4. Steelers (7-5-1): A big game at home against the Patriots today.5. Chargers (11-3): Tied in the AFC West, but they need to win out while the Chiefs lose or tie one of their last two games.6. Ravens (7-6): They remain the top wild card team, and have a good chance of catching the Steelers in the division. The Ravens own the tiebreaker over Miami based on common games, and over Indianapolis based on AFC games.7. Colts (7-6): Win the head-to-head tiebreaker over Miami and Tennessee.8. Dolphins (7-6): Playoff hopes are still alive.9. Titans (7-6): Tiebreaker scenarios aren’t great for Tennessee.10. Browns (6-7-1): It may be too little too late, but give Cleveland credit for still being in contention after beating the Broncos.11. Broncos (6-8): Their playoff hopes went from slim to none with the loss to the Browns.12. Bengals (5-8): Marvin Lewis can do no better than .500 this season. Everybody at CBS picked the Colts. I love that because it makes the third straight week that I have seen a graphic where everyone picked against the Titans. The Titans won the last 2 games. No reason they won’t make it 3 in a row today. The line over at MyBookie has dropped all the way down to Titans +1 after opening at Titans +3. That means there are plenty of people out there who have faith in the Titans. Hopefully they can come out and reward those people. This is the biggest game of the year. A win here sets up a huge Monday night game next week against the Texans. Home game is taken away."The National Football League today announced the matchups for its five 2019 international regular-season games – four in the UK and one in Mexico. The 2019 international games:Mexico - Chiefs vs. ChargersUK - Panthers vs. BucsUK - Bears vs. RaidersUK - Bengals vs. RamsUK - Texans vs. JaguarsMexico City’s Azteca Stadium will host a matchup between the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. Both teams Womens Peyton Barber Jersey , who finished the 2018 regular season with identical 12-4 records, will be playing in Mexico City for the first time. The AFC South champion Houston Texans – who face the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars – and the Carolina Panthers – who face their NFC South foes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – will both make their London debuts. It will bring the total number of NFL teams to have played in the UK to 31 in 28 regular-season games by the end of the 2019 season. The Jaguars will be playing a home game in London for the seventh consecutive season. The Buccaneers will play as host to the Panthers at either Wembley Stadium or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Dates, kickoff times and venues for all international games will be announced in conjunction with the release of the full NFL schedule this spring. This will be the third time the Bucs have played a regular season game in London. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to exploit two of the five areas I identified last week leading into their Monday Night match-up against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and didn’t fully challenge one until later in the game when they were in full-blown catch-up mode.Had the Bucs been able to keep Juju Smith-Schuster from turning short catches into big gains, and had Vance McDonald not come up with his one big play of the night, it’s safe to say the Steelers would not have grabbed the early momentum they did.A lack of creativity in the offense allowed the Steelers to diagnose and react to the Tampa Bay offense all night, leading to many hits on Ryan Fitzpatrick which contributed to his poor night securing the football. Finally, the Bucs struggled to exploit Pittsburgh’s soft secondary for most of the night while struggling in pass protection as mentioned before. In the second half, Fitzpatrick and his receivers had better success as the pass rush was less effective and the Bucs were able to come back to within one score before running out of clock and opportunities.Had Tampa Bay been able to accomplish even one of these, they likely would have come away with a win.So, what have the Bears shown can be used against them? Here’s how the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will beat the Chicago Bears in Week 4 of the NFL regular season.1. Meet at the quarterback.USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin-USASimilar to my call for the Bucs defense to play more man and press coverage last week, this is similar.Trubisky doesn’t respond well to pressure. He commits to running the ball early when faced with pressure up the middle which has led to two fumbles in the pocket this year as he collided with his own linemen or penetrating defenders. When he does run, linebackers like Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David need to make him feel it. Trubisky isn’t as risky while running as someone like Robert Griffin III was, but he doesn’t give himself up unless he absolutely feels like he's done for.One-on-one tackle opportunities for Alexander and David will also present the opportunity to make the young quarterback regret his decisions. This could lead to more business decisions by Trubisky as the game moves on, and present other situations the Bucs defense can capitalize on (more on that in a minute). When facing soft coverage William Gholston Jersey , Trubisky has no problem dumping the ball short and letting his playmakers get his stats for him. He struggles throwing into tight windows, so he’ll take anything open underneath if he can.Facing the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals so far this season, nobody has gotten consistent pressure on Trubisky. In fact, according to Pro Football Focus, the second-year quarterback has only faced pressure on 25.4% of his drop backs, 27th fewest in the league.Compare this to the number of times Ryan Fitzpatrick has been under pressure (45/35.4%) against 2017 playoff defenses. If the Bucs want to be a playoff team, then pressure must be applied to the quarterback.Deny the easy short pass, put pressure in his face, and punish him for leaving the pocket.2. Learn from Pittsburgh’s pass rush.Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsIn the first half of Tampa Bay’s Week 3 game, it looked like the offensive line had just simply never seen a blitz before.Miscommunications, failed shifts and missed blocks altogether plagued the offensive line and contributed to the big halftime deficit they faced against the Steelers. If we think Chicago didn’t see it, then it’ll happen all over again. The Bears like to get pressure on the quarterback as much as anyone. Problem is, they really don’t do it with any consistency when rushing with just their defensive line.Blitzes are needed for Chicago to get to the quarterback. In one exceptionally bad series for the Seattle Seahawks, they allowed Khalil Mack to go unblocked on a bootleg designed to lure him into over pursuing the play and giving Russell Wilson room to operate - yeah Womens Ronde Barber Jersey , good plan. The entire game, Germain Ifedi got run out of the building by Mack. Seattle seemed to think Ifedi would simply get better as the game went on. They were wrong.Control Mack and you control the Bears pass rush. Outside of the play which injured Aaron Rodgers and while Deshone Kizer was playing, the Packers did a pretty solid job by helping against Mack and shifting protection to his side often.Arizona didn’t do a terrible job, the Cardinals quarterbacks just didn’t want to win that game though. In the second half against Pittsburgh the Buccaneers handled the blitz and pass rush better than they had in the first. They’ll need to replicate and hopefully even get better this week in order to keep Khalil Mack from becoming a menace and freeing his teammates to do the same.3. Penetrate the middle, contain the edge.Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY SportsOk, so this is football 101, right? But it’s going to be crucial this weekend. If the Buccaneers’ edge defenders don’t keep things contained inside the tackles against Chicago, both Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen are going to feed on soft edges all day long. The Bears will try to run inside and outside with both running backs. They do this to lure the defense into crashing hard on the edge, at which time they pull the rug out and get their two backs outside to exploit the aggressive adjustment.Discipline will be important and the Bucs’ linebackers will have to diagnose these runs accurately to prevent their defensive line from feeling the need to overcommit one way or the other.4. Physical receiver play and throwing for what you want.Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY SportsOne of the biggest threats DeSean Jackson provides for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is big play ability. After three weeks, the speed receiver is ninth in the league in receiving yards, and is the only player in the Top-10 who has run fewer than 100 receiver routes so far.Jackson is averaging 26 yards per catch, and has 71-yards after the catch to his credit this year.If the Bears defense maintains their secondary trends this week, Jackson will not be able to use his run after catch gift as much as he has in the past.According to PFF, Chicago has the sixth best tackling defense in the league behind teams like the Vikings, Eagles and Jets. This doesn’t mean the Bucs can’t get explosive runs after their catches Womens Ali Marpet Jersey , it just makes it less likely. So, from an offensive strategy standpoint, whoever the quarterback is this weekend in Chicago they need to throw for the yards they want.3rd-and-8? Don’t throw a five yard slant trying to convert, throw it eight yards or more. Get it? Good. However, this is more applicable to short and intermediate throwing. Deep passing is a whole other story.Three Bears defenders are allowing quarterback ratings of over 110: Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller, and Kevin Tolliver II. Jackson and Fuller have combined to surrender three scoring plays and 68 of the 81 yards gained against Jackson have come after the catch.Toliver is the youngest of the three and has only faced five targets this season after replacing Prince Amukamara after he was injured in Arizona. However, in limited action he surrendered four catches for 54-yards, the biggest chunk coming against rookie Christian Kirk.Kirk would be fifth on the depth chart in Tampa Bay.Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, O.J. Howard and Cam Brate all represent players who can body their defenders and have the strength to win fights for the ball.Chicago’s secondary has shown the ability to be pushed around and they like man coverage

When he became the head coach of the 49ers in 2011 Womens Joe Staley Jersey , Jim Harbaugh quickly solidified his reputation as one of the best coaches in football. He took a team that had missed the playoffs eight years in a row and had them in the NFC Championship Game his first year, the Super Bowl his second year and the NFC Championship Game again his third year. Although his fourth year wasn’t as successful and he walked away to coach Michigan, he left the NFL with his reputation intact.Today his reputation has taken a big hit.Harbaugh’s favored and No. 4 ranked Michigan team suffered an ugly 62-39 loss to Ohio State today, dropping Harbaugh to 0-4 against his bitter rival. And the way Harbaugh lost raises questions about whether he’s ever going to change with the times. From the first drives of the game, when Ohio State marched down the field with ease against Michigan’s defense, while Michigan’s offense looked out of sorts and had to waste an early timeout, Harbaugh’s players looked ill-prepared. If there was ever a game when Harbaugh should have had his team ready, this game — a huge rivalry with a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game and likely a trip to the College Football Playoff on the line — should have been it.But this wasn’t it. Harbaugh’s defense was burned by Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins over and over and over again. Haskins, who looks like a first-round draft pick, didn’t do anything fancy. He just dropped back, scanned the field and found someone open http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-ronnie-lott-jersey , usually over the middle on a crossing pattern, over and over and over again.Michigan’s offense, although it did put 39 points on the board, looked a step slow all day. Harbaugh promised when he took the Michigan job that he’d use fullbacks and tight ends, like his Michigan coach Bo Schembechler had. But the reality is, Harbaugh needs to innovate, not to run an offense like Schembechler’s, which was considered old-school even when Harbaugh was Michigan’s quarterback in the 1980s.Ohio State suffered one loss this season, to Purdue. In that game, the Buckeyes had no answer for the innovative offense run by Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm. Watch how Brohm’s Purdue offense played Ohio State, then watch how Harbaugh’s Michigan offense played Ohio State Womens Matt Breida Jersey , and you’ll see the difference between being innovative enough to win and being arrogant enough to think you don’t have to innovate to win.And that raises questions about where Harbaugh’s future lies. He has just finished the season 10-2 and will go to a good bowl game. His job is safe at Michigan. But there’s been some talk that Harbaugh wants to return to the NFL some day, that his Super Bowl loss with the 49ers still eats at him and he wants another chance at standing atop the football world. The football world, however, is being taken over by young and innovative coaches like Sean McVay and Matt Nagy, and older coaches who are willing to keep innovating, like Sean Payton and Andy Reid. Is Harbaugh willing to innovate? If he’s not, he won’t end up on top, either at Michigan or in the NFL.Getting to know 49ers rookie right guard Najee Toran The San Francisco 49ers’ right guard position has been crunched with injuries. Joshua Garnett remains out with a dislocated toe and Mike Person has a foot strain. This opens the doors of opportunity for some others. Enter rookie guard Najee Toran who has been activated off the practice squad and slotted in to start Sunday against the Detroit Lions. In my 90-on-90 for him there was little available to evaluate. I got a look at his game against USC (when he played with UCLA) and while I didn’t hate what I saw, I also knew he would need development to have a chance. His run blocking is not something that I’m hopeful for at the NFL level while his pass protection had its moments. His upper and lower body seemed to disconnect at times as well. Still, with development, I thought the 49ers may have something with this guy. When I said “development Womens Robbie Gould Jersey ,” I was of the mindset he’d be kept off the field for at least a year, not for just one game. That is where we are right now with the 49ers’ injury list. This gives Toran a huge opportunity to impress and show he belongs on the roster. I’ve already gone over his college play in my post linked above, but I wanted to get a look at his preseason play as well. Jeff Deeney at Pro Football Focus tweeted out his preseason numbers which I’ll show below: Those numbers are not very comforting. Toran came in the second half of games and faced other third and fourth stringers. In the preseason finale, he did the same and did better, but I am allocating that on the fact that the Los Angeles Chargers went to the bottom of the well towards the end to get exposure for all the talent about to be cut. Provided Garnett and Person can’t suit up Sunday, the 49ers have Matt Tobin behind Toran if the latter doesn’t work out or gets injured. Tobin has the experience Toran lacks, but he’s also bounced around the league. In 2017, he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks and knowing he couldn’t get a single start in his time there with the Seahawks’ line issues doesn’t help his stock.Pick your poison at right guard, I suppose.

Everyone could see Shaquill Griffin was having a rough game last Sunday. Casual observers Ben Burr-Kirven Seattle Seahawks Jersey , emotionally charged viewers and financially invested watchers; Dallas Cowboys fans, Seattle Seahawks supporters and NFL followers; Griffin was bad to the most inexperienced football spectator.I wrote the previous week about the ability of Tre Flowers resulting in “some teams,” targeting “Shaquill Griffin more.” Flowers’ excellent debut season has coincided with an underwhelming second campaign for Griffin. What started so brightly for Griffin with interceptions against the Chicago Bears dwindled. Sure, the 2017 third-rounder was bugged by an ankle injury. But his wild card round failures were not issues of athleticism or fluidity. While it’s impossible to determine the impact playing hurt had on Griffin’s confidence, his poor plays were based purely in ghastly technique and awareness. His performance was so disappointing that drafting another cornerback looks essential, irrespective of whether slot defender Justin Coleman is re-signed.One method Dallas utilized to attack Griffin was their “duo” run scheme. (I wrote about Seattle’s misdirection version here) The Seahawks’ front played the design well each time. Encouragingly for Seattle, Ezekiel Elliott was forced to bounce his read to the EDGE. Negatively, the two instances saw Elliott beat the unblocked Griffin one-on-one. Griffin out-leverages himselfOn the first occasion, the Cowboys aligned in a 2x2 11 personnel single back formation. They then shifted Tavon Austin into a “sniffer role”—so named for its location right behind the buttocks of the guard. On the 3rd and 1, post-shift, the Seahawks had nearly 9 men in the box for the 7 Dallas blockers. Their choice of dime personnel, rather than nickel 2019 Ben Burr-Kirven Jersey , for the 11 personnel was somewhat strange given the short-yardage but was testament to their faith in Bradley McDougald as a box player. Pete Carroll and Ken Norton Jr. were likely fearful of being burnt again via an empty set too.The Cowboys managed to get 3 double teams at the line of scrimmage, but there were too many Seattle bodies for Elliott to run this up the middle. The ball carrier’s first read was middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner thundered downwards to close the cutback B-gap. Elliott then looked toward McDougald in the other A-gap and saw that closed. The running back’s sound process took him to the perimeter. The decision to bounce on 3rd and 1 was exactly what the Seahawks wanted to force. They just needed Griffin, the contain man, to make the tackle. Unfortunately, Griffin was conflicted by Austin’s sniffer location and had already aligned inside. After reading the overall downblock motion of the offensive line, and trying to follow Austin inside, Griffin totally out-leveraged himself by moving further inside. As the outside cornerback, Griffin’s run fit assignment is to never let the running back get close to being outside of him. His job is to turn the running back towards the help and not surrender the sideline. On this play, Elliott exploited Griffin’s relinquishing of outside-in leverage and scampered into the forbidden territory. What should have been a 3rd down stop became a 3rd down disaster. Having just taken the lead on the previous drive and with only 1:22 left in the 2nd quarter, this was one of the biggest Seattle mistakes of the game. These types of errors result in elimination. Griffin stiff-armedLooking to finish the game leading 17-14 with 3:59 remaining in the game, it was smart of Dallas to return to their “duo” play. The Seahawks only had two timeouts remaining and they desperately needed to get off the field on the Cowboys’ 1st and 10.Dallas shifted into a very similar 11 personnel look.Everyone could see Shaquill Griffin was having a rough game last Sunday. The gaps for the Elliott to run through were well filled by the Seahawks once more. Wagner was waiting clean in the B-gap. Center Joe Looney was fortunate to escape a holding call on the penetration of Poona Ford in the A-gap. K.J. Wright lurked in the playside A-gap. Elliott again read across the line of scrimmage and was forced into bouncing the run. In stark contrast to the first play, Griffin had superb leverage here. Facing zero resistance, he came downhill outside of Elliott needing to turn the runner back inside. The corner’s biggest mistake was not staying on the near-hip of Elliott. Instead, he paused his feet as Elliott faked to cut up inside. The defender would have been better suited closing the gap between Elliott and him while attacking the near hip firmly outside-in.The result of Elliott’s superiority was the outside opening slightly. In the footrace to the outside, Elliott gave Griffin a nasty off-hand stiff arm and shoved the hurrying cornerback to the floor. Elliott 2 Griffin 0. First down Cowboys. Switching sidesWhat made the two Elliott duo runs so frustrating as a viewer, and I’m sure as a Seahawks player too, was that the rest of the defense executed. The two Griffin mistakes serve as clear examples of the importance of assignment-sound football. “Do your job” is a fatigued clich茅, yet it’s so true’ just one person needs to mess up and the whole thing collapses. It was telling that Dallas chose Griffin as the weak link rather than targeting Tre Flowers, who has largely been excellent in run support. Griffin had been guessing a lot in the latter weeks of the season, most notably biting on double moves and relying on his athleticism to recover. A surprising aspect to 2018 was that teams didn’t target Griffin more. A bad performance was coming, it just needed a team to highlight the weakness. Sure, there’s no better coach than Carroll to rectify the sophomore problems Griffin experienced. As it turned out, it was one of those nights for the Lions. The Jets scored 48 of the next 58 points and routed the Lions 48-17 to move to 1-0 on the season.

Houston reached the Tennessee 21 on a 31-yard pass from Deshaun Watson to DeAndre Hopkins with two seconds remaining Derrick Henry Jersey , but with no timeouts remaining, time expired on the Texans. The Titans held on for a 20-17 victory. It was Mike Vrabel‘s first win as head coach, coming against the team where he served as defensive coordinator last season. Ryan Succop hit the game-winning field goal — a 31-yarder — with 1:00 remaining. The Titans celebrated a game they weren’t expected to win without their starting quarterback, their starting tackles and their backup right tackle, among others. They won anyway, with Vrabel pulling out all the stops.Tennessee used a fake punt — a 66-yard touchdown throw from safety Kevin Byard to safety Dane Cruikshank — and the Wildcat offense to surprise Houston.Blaine Gabbert, who started in place of injured quarterback Marcus Mariota, went 13-for-20 for 117 yards and a touchdown. Corey Davis caught five passes for 55 yards.Jadeveon Clowney, who was inactive with elbow and back injuries, was flagged for taunting from the sideline. The 15-yard penalty aided the Titans in their game-tying drive to set up Succop’s 42-yard field goal with 9:43 left. With the game tied 17-17, the Texans drove to the Titans 37. They punted, and Tennessee drove for the winning points.Watson went 22-of-32 for 310 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Hopkins caught six passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Will Fuller had eight catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. The Titans absolutely dominated the New England Patriots in every way possible today. Offense, defense, special teams, coaching... everything was lopsided in favor of the two-tone blue at Nissan Stadium. This was as close as you can get to a perfect football game. Let’s get to the winners and losers from Titans 34, “Titans of the North” 10.WinnersMalcolm ButlerAfter a tough week in Dallas, many were concerned about the Patriots further exposing Butler’s tendencies to bite on double moves. Instead we saw a return of “Good Butler” as the Titans big offseason addition was hardly ever targeted by his former team. He was a part of a Tennessee secondary that held Tom Brady to just 21 of 41 passing (51.2%) for 254 yards, an average of just 6.2 yards per attempt. It was good to see Butler put together this type of game against his former team Kenny Vaccaro Jersey White , especially after the way things ended for him in New England.Regardless of what you think of Butler’s first 8 games as a Titan, this is the kind of performance that Jon Robinson envisioned when he signed him this offseason. If that player shows up more frequently down the stretch, it completely changes the ceiling for this Titans defense (which is already very high).Corey DavisDavis played like a superstar on Sunday, catching 7 of 10 targets for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also drew a big pass interference call. Two of those 7 catches were absolutely fantastic plays by the second year wide receiver. His most impressive catch of the gamewas an 8-yard third down conversion where he made a leaping, twisting snag to haul in a pass that was both high and behind him. Not only did Davis put up big numbers, but he did so while being shadowed by one of the NFL’s best corners in Stephon Gilmore. He regularly roasted Gilmore during this game. Davis clearly loves playing the Pats.Marcus Mariota Mariota came out hot, throwing touchdown passes on the Titans first two drives of the game. He showed remarkable presence in the pocket and did a great job of not only avoiding pressure, but doing so while keeping his eyes down field. He found Corey Davis for a big gain outside the pocket during the first drive and ended that march with a strike to Jonnu Smith on a similar play. He cooled off a little bit later in the game, but his final line was an efficient 16 of 24 for 228 yards for a huge 9.5 yards per attempt average, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Oh, and he also added 21 yards rushing and 21 yards receiving to an excellent day. Mariota has now strung together three straight very strong games and appears to be both feeling better physically and gaining a firmer grasp of Matt LaFleur’s offense. He’s thrown 5 touchdowns to just 1 interception over that timeframe and looked much more comfortable. Adoree’ JacksonJackson was given the tall task of tracking Josh Gordon most of the game and while Gordon did end up with 81 yards, he did that while catching just 4 of 12 targets. That lack of efficiency was largely a reflection of Jackson’s coverage. He was credited with just 2 passes defended officially — which is still a strong game for a corner — but he was there cutting off Gordon’s path or otherwise disrupting him all game. Jackson’s emergence as a borderline shutdown corner has been largely overshadowed by Butler’s struggles across from him, but he should get massive credit for his performance in this game. He was the best of a thoroughly outstanding secondary performance today.Wesley WoodyardThe veteran linebacker was all over the field on Sunday, stuffing the stat sheet with 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, and 3 additional hits on Tom Brady. The Titans inside linebacker group has been outstanding over the past few games with Woodyard, Jayon Brown (who also had a sack today) Womens Luke Stocker Jersey , and Rashaan Evans all playing at a very high level. Cameron BatsonBatson got a lot of snaps with Taywan Taylor sitting out with a foot injury this week and he showed why the Titans chose to keep him over other options on the 53-man roster. He had just 2 catches for 36 yards, but once again they were both third down conversions, including a fantastic toe-dragging snag along the sideline. He’s been good when pressed in to action and could be in line for a bigger role as the season continues. Batson profiles — ironically — as your prototypical New England slot receiver. He’s just 5’-8” tall, but he’s smart (high school valedictorian and three-time All-Big 12 Academic honoree), fast (4.32 40 time at Texas Tech’s pro day), and fearless. Call me crazy, but I think the Titans could really have something with Batson.Jonnu SmithThe Jonnu Smith redemption train continues to gain steam. He was the Titans second-leading receiver on the game, catching all 3 of his targets for 45 yards and a touchdown. He showed off some outstanding run after catch ability in the process. He’s now got touchdowns in back to back games since the bye week.Derrick HenryHenry remains the clear Robin to Dion Lewis’ Batman, but the big back took advantage of his limited opportunities against New England, rushing for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 11 carries. He continues to be efficient in goalline situations and may have earned a bigger workload against the Colts with his performance down the stretch in this one.Kenny VaccaroThe Titans physical safety set the tone for the excellent defensive performance on the very first play of the game.He absolutely wrecked James White on this swing pass, showing the play recognition, closing speed, and aggression that once made him a first round pick. I feel like I say this every week, but Vaccaro has been a massive help for this Titans defense. The other 31 teams should be ashamed for leaving him sitting on the market all summer. He and Kevin Byard are an elite combo on the back end.Mike VrabelThis must have felt pretty good for the former Patriot. Vrabel and his staff completely outcoached Belichick in this one. The Titans didn’t appear to be surprised by anything the always shapeshifting Patriots threw at them. Instead, Tennessee appeared to be the more prepared squad, frustrating Brady on defense with sticky coverage and well-timed blitzes while the offense remained balanced and efficient all game. Vrabel even managed to get in an expert level troll of his former coach by running the same reverse pass that New England had used on its previous offensive series and doing it better.Vrabel’s team played with a swagger and confidence from start to finish. It was clear that they weren’t intimidated by the Patriots. The Titans were the aggressor.Just under 10 years after Belichick traded Vrabel to the Chiefs, his former pass catching linebacker came back and thumped him as an opposing head coach. What’s that they say about payback?LosersLOL, not today

On September 16th Ali Marpet Jersey , which was week two of the NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sat at 2-0 after beating the New Orleans Saints on the road and the Philadelphia Eagles at Home. It seems like a lifetime ago, but that actually happened. These Tampa Bay Buccaneers were 2-0 at one point. What an anomaly that was.The saints haven’t lost since and the Eagles haven’t been what everyone thought they would following their super bowl victory. Nonetheless, it was still an impressive two wins for then starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buccaneers, but since then Tampa Bay has shown their true colors of years past and boy oh boy is it ugly. So where do the Buccaneers go from here? I’m glad you asked. Well, first things first, Dirk Koetter needs to be relieved of his job. The Cleveland Browns saw no real change midway through their season and fired Hue Jackson, and the Buccaneers should do the same. What else is there to see over the final 6 games of the season? The ship isn’t going to do a 180, the Buccaneers aren’t going to win out, heck, the Buccaneers might lose out. The team has dropped six of their last seven games and things are spiraling out of control. Someone different is calling the plays every week, whether it be Todd Monken, or Dirk Koetter. The fan base has no clue every Monday who the quarterback is going to be on Sunday. The defense is on pace to be the worst defense in NFL history. The offense is turning the ball over at an all-time rate, while the defense hasn’t forced a turnover since Week 3. Yup, that’s right, it’s been almost two full months since the Buccaneers defense has taken the ball away. For the better part of two years now, Dirk Koetter has waisted talented football teams. Sure Jason Licht has whiffed on players here and there, but he has done more than enough to surround Dirk Koetter and this coaching staff with talent. I give Koetter a pass for that first year because he was a rookie head coach in the National Football League, that’s no easy task, but the last two years are on him, plain and simple. Not everything is his fault Shaquil Barrett Jersey , but a good majority of it is and the problems that have plagued this team for the last two years aren’t getting fixed and seem to be only getting worse and that falls directly on Koetters shoulders. When the Buccaneers sat at 3-5, Koetter had a chance to save himself with games against the injured Redskins and a bad Giants team to get back to .500, but both resulted in losses in typical Buccaneer fashion and all but sealed Koetter’s fate as the head coach. As I mentioned before, Koetter isn’t the only problem with this team. This defense needs a complete overhaul, and by overhaul, I mean pretty much everyone outside of 4-5 players need to go. It’s that bad. The only players, who to me are completely untouchable on the defensive side of the ball, are Jason Pierre-Paul, Carlton Davis, Lavonte David, Justin Evans and Carl Nassib. You can add Kwon Alexander into the mix, but who knows what his health will be come 2019. The Buccaneers need to start from scratch on the defensive side of the ball. Whomever the GM is next season, I can guarantee that drastic changes will be made. The Buccaneers have the highest paid defensive line in the league and outside of Jason Pierre-Paul and Carl Nassib, every single player has under-performed. They are 19th in the league with 25 sacks, but JPP and Nassib have combined for 14 of those sacks. The defensive line has a crew full of run stoppers in a pass happy league. This, of course comes back to Mike Smith’s philosophy of stopping the run as their first priority instead of containing the high octane offenses in the NFC South. The one consistent thing that the Buccaneers do well is manage the salary cap, which allows them to move in different directions with players, even if it’s only after one year. As of right now, the Buccaneers have close to $16 million dollars available to spend next off-season, but that number will likely be closer to $25 million if the NFL continues to increase the salary cap.The Buccaneers can free up extra cap space by making these five moves. 1. Cut or trade Gerald McCoy and save $13 million dollars. Look, McCoy has been a great player for this organization for many years Sean Bunting Jersey , but it’s time to move on, for both sides. He hasn’t looked himself for the majority of the last two seasons and is turning 31 years old in February. He has even said himself that his knees are starting to bother him and that he only has a few more years left. To me, this is a no brainer and the team could spend $13 million in better places. 2. Cut Vinny Curry and save $8 million dollars. Curry has simply been a huge disappointment for Tampa Bay this season. He is battling ankle issues, but in the games where he has been healthy, I’ve hardly noticed him. He will also be 31 years old next season and an $8 million dollar cap hit for someone who doesn’t consistently get to the quarterback is far too much. 3. Cut William Gholston and save $3.75 million. No excusing Jason Licht for this one, it was a terrible move. What more can you say? In a day and age where defensive lineman need to be able to rush the passer, 1 sack in the last year and a half is simply unacceptable. 4. Cut Mitch Unrein and save $3.75 million. He has yet to play a game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has been in the concussion protocol since early August. You honestly have to wonder if he will ever play football again at this point, but the team can spend that money elsewhere, maybe to help their putrid offensive line. 5. Cut DeSean Jackson and save $10 million dollars. Jackson just isn’t fitting in with the Buccaneers and the experiment is turning into a disaster. It seems like everytime he is targeted the ball gets intercepted. Maybe the new regime will want to keep him and find better ways to get him the ball, but I just don’t see it. The Buccaneers have the weapons to replace Jackson’s production as a team. He will also be 32 years old next season and one has to wonder when father time will cut into his big play ability. Those five moves would free up an additional $38.5 million dollars for Tampa Bay, which would put them at around $64.5 million dollars in available cap space. I could also see them moving on from Cameron Brate, who has been a lost cause this season. This move would free up an additional $7 million dollars. Outside of Koetter and the defensive issues, there is another glaring issue for this football team, and that’s the offensive line. It’s simply atrocious. I get that Koetter has his vertical scheme and this offensive line is asked to do a lot, but my god every play the quarterback is under pressure way too often. The Caleb Benenoch experiment has been a failure and he continues to prove that week by week. The Buccaneers will need to find a solution at left guard next season. Whether it be Alex Cappa, who has yet to dress for an NFL game or an outside option, a change needs to happen. Demar Dotson is a shell of his former self and has gotten beat way too many times this season, but is due a modest $4.85 million next season, so it wouldn’t shock me to see him get one more year, simply because there may not be a better option out there. Ryan Jensen, who is the highest paid center in the NFL Sean Bunting Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jersey , is currently playing like a top 20 center, not a top 5. Ali Marpet is fantastic and the Buccaneers are fortunate to have locked him up for the long haul before he got to FA. The last remaining player is Donovan Smith, and the Buccaneers will face a tough decision on what to do with the former Nittany Lion. Smith, is in his fourth year and is having an up and down season in a contract year. Sometimes the effort is there, other times it is not and you wonder what the hell he is doing. He is still way to inconsistent, which is why it’s going to be extremely difficult to pay him the money he wants. It wouldn’t shock me to see the Buccaneers move on and look towards the draft for his replacement. So to recap, that’s four of five positions on the offensive line that are either under-performing or are way too inconsistent. That’s simply too many and an issue that must be fixed by the new regime that takes over.We didn’t dive deep into the Jameis Winston debate in this article, but that’s due to the fact that the next six weeks will likely decide whether or not the team picks up his fifth year option. It is going to be an interesting next few months inside the walls of One Buc Place, but in order for this franchise to be turned around, three things must happen. Hire a competent, well rounded coaching staff that will help develop Jameis Winston and adapt to his style of play, fix the defense in nearly every way outside of a few players and retool at least two offensive line positions this off-season. It’ll be a fun one, folks. At least we get to look forward to another off-season of changes. The NFL believes Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead should have been penalized for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, according to Pat McManamon of ESPN.com.Whitehead was initially flagged for the hit only to have the flag picked up by Shawn Hochuli’s officiating crew.Facing a second-and-26 with just over eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Mayfield took off on a scramble through the middle of the Buccaneers defense. As Mayfield began to slide at the end of the 35-yard gain, Whitehead came in and contacted Mayfield with a helmet-to-helmet blow. After discussing the play, Hochuli announced there was no flag on the play because “the quarterback was still a runner and therefore is allowed to be hit in the head. He had not yet begun to slide.”Per the report, Whitehead could have been flagged for one of two infractions: unnecessary roughness for a hit to the head of a sliding player, or unsportsmanlike conduct for using his helmet to hit a player. If the flag had been enforced, the Browns would have had a first-and-10 at the Buccaneers 26-yard line instead of the 41-yard line. Cleveland would fail to convert a fourth-and-goal and the Tampa Bay 1-yard line.A fine levied against Whitehead would be expected if the league believes the play should have been a penalty.

SANTA CLARA Adrian Colbert Jersey White , Calif. (AP) — When Kyle Shanahan was up for a head coaching job in the NFL two offseasons ago, he had one of his interviews in a very familiar place.Shanahan met with Denver general manager John Elway for about four hours to interview for a job his dad, Mike, held for 14 seasons, helping Elway and the Broncos win a pair of Super Bowl titles.Elway ended up giving the job to Vance Joseph in 2017 and Shanahan got hired by the San Francisco 49ers instead in what he believes is a better spot to make his imprint.“I’d like to say I made the decision pretty hard on them. I’d like to think that,” Shanahan said. “I didn’t think I had much chance before. I definitely am happy where I am, and I think it’s definitely a better situation not being there with my dad. Also, that’s my wife’s home. That’s my home. I enjoy going back there to visit, but I like living where I’m at.”Shanahan now gets the chance to coach against the franchise he spent so much time around as a kid when the 49ers (2-10) host the Broncos (6-6) on Sunday.Shanahan has plenty of memories from his time in Denver, especially being the “cord boy” in Denver’s 1998 Super Bowl win over Green Bay when he held the cords for his father on the sideline.“After that Green Bay Super Bowl, they went wireless the next year,” Shanahan said. “I think they only won one more because they didn’t have as good of a cord-holder, is what I always tell my dad.”Here are some other things to watch:UNDRAFTED GEMSTwo of the three undrafted quarterbacks to start a game in the NFL this season will square off on Sunday.Denver’s Case Keenum entered the league as an undrafted free agent in Houston in 2012 and emerged as a top-flight starter last year in Minnesota. He signed with the Broncos this year and has the team in position for a playoff run.San Francisco’s Nick Mullens entered the league last year as an undrafted free agent and was finally promoted from the practice squad in September after Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 3. Mullens has started four games and has the fifth-most yards passing since the merger in his first four career games with 1,147.“Being an undrafted guy, I’ve kind of, I guess you could say done some research on different guys’ paths and how they’ve made it Malcolm Smith Jersey White , how they’ve stuck around in the NFL,” Mullens said. “He’s definitely a guy that I’ve looked at his path, see how he’s gone. He’s a great quarterback.”UNDRAFTED GEMS PART 2Both teams will also feature undrafted starting running backs as well. Denver’s Phillip Lindsay has 1,126 yards from scrimmage this season, joining Dominic Rhodes (1,328), Clark Gaines (1,124) and LeGarrette Blount (1,021) as the only undrafted rookies to reach 1,000 yards from scrimmage.San Francisco’s Jeff Wilson gets his first start in place of another undrafted gem, Matt Breida, who is out with an ankle injury. Wilson rushed for 61 yards on 15 carries and caught eight passes for 73 yards in his most extensive action last week and is familiar with Lindsay as another undrafted player.“You know who the guys are,” Wilson said. “I know he’s a great back. He’s one of the best ones to me.”INJURY BUGThe Broncos got a tough break this week when leading receiver Emmanuel Sanders went down with a torn left Achilles tendon in practice on Wednesday. Sanders led the team with 71 catches for 868 yards and four touchdowns in a bounce-back year. His injury comes three days after star cornerback Chris Harris Jr. broke his leg, leaving the Broncos without seven starters from the opening-day lineup.“We can’t cry about it,” Joseph said. “We have to move on and go play a football game on Sunday.”SEARCHING FOR TAKEAWAYSThe 49ers are closing in on a record for ineptitude when it comes to causing turnovers. Their five takeaways through 12 games are the fewest ever at this point in the season, lowering the previous mark of seven by Jacksonville in 2016.San Francisco needs six takeaways in the final four games to avoid setting the mark of 11 for fewest ever in a non-strike season Jimmie Ward Jersey White , last done by Chicago in 2016. Welcome to Week 10 of the NFL season! The San Francisco 49ers host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, with Nick Mullens making his second start and the 49ers defense looking to build on a strong effort against the Raiders. There are big draft pick implications, but the 49ers might just be able to get a win streak going. The 2018 NFL season is officially in full swing, which means regular season betting is back. I’m back for another year of picks in the Westgate SuperContest. SB Nation’s partners over at Odds Shark are sponsoring my entry again. The contest requires selecting 5 games each week and picking them against the spread. I went 3-2 in week 9, improving to 20-22-3 for the season. Overall for last week, I finished 7-6.I pondered taking the 49ers over the Giants this week as one of my SuperContest picks, but decided to stay away. I’m taking them in my full list of picks, but didn’t quite have the stones to pull the trigger as one of my five. I’ll get into more detail on Monday, but in the meantime, I like them against the spread because of the potential for the 49ers defense to pile up sacks and turnovers. Much like an olive jar, once you get that first one out, they can come in big numbers. The Giants offensive line is a mess, and I think we see the 49ers defense get at least two takeaways. I don’t know what to expect of Nick Mullens in his second start, but he couldn’t ask for a much better follow-up defense after what he saw from the Raiders. Here are my five SuperContest picks for Week 10:JETS (-6.5) over BillsJaguars (+3) over COLTSBENGALS (+5.5) over SaintsWashington (+3) over BUCCANEERSPACKERS (-9.5) over DolphinsI went 7-6 overall in Week 9. The NFL trade deadline is today at 3 pm CST. I do not think the Titans will do anything Womens Ryan Succop Jersey , but I certainly think they should. A trade would boost the team, and a trade for either a TE or WR would be most needed. Golden Tate is rumored to be had for a 4th rounder. Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders would both be upgrades. Pierre Garcon would be an upgrade. Devante Parker would be an upgrade. Heck, the only guys who wouldn’t be an upgrade are Nick Williams and Kelvin Benjamin. Jon Robinson discusses the big month ahead for the Titans. I would categorize Monday night as a must win. Overall the Titans probably need 3 of 4 to stay in the playoff race. Mike Vrabel says he doesn’t do trades, so don’t ask him about them. That’s JRob’s gig. The Titans did add FB Jalston Fowler, who should help the Titans block, and improve the run game. I’m fine with the move, I just hope they augment the team in other ways too. Mike Gundy is awesome and hates twitter so much he makes fart noises about it. The first injury report for the week is out and it’s a mixed bag for the Titans. Conklin is in the concussion protocol which can be highly unpredictable. Just this season we have seen Adoree’ Jackson return to play the following week while Taylor Lewan and Blaine Gabbert both took two weeks before returning to action. There really is no set timeline with these injuries, but given that this is a short week for the Titans, it seems like there is a better than 50-50 chance that Conklin misses the Patriots game. Dennis Kelly would start at right tackle in his place and, frankly, Kelly has been outstanding when pressed in to action this season so the team should be OK with him in there if Conklin can’t go.Taylor was reportedly wearing a walking boot on his injured foot in the locker room which certainly doesn’t seem like a good sign for him to be able to go this weekend either. Taylor has been inconsistent in his second season out of Western Kentucky, but the Titans already thin receiving corps certainly doesn’t need to get any thinner. If he can’t go — and maybe even if he can — Cameron Batson seems likely to get the start as Tennessee’s primary slot receiver when the team is in 11 personnel. The speedy, undersized, undrafted rookie from Texas Tech caught two passes for 21 yards — both for 3rd down conversions — in his first extended action at wide receiver on Monday night and earned praise from Mike Vrabel for his work in the game.Cruikshank left the Cowboys game early with a knee injury and did not return. He is a key part of the Titans highly rated special teams units and will be missed if he can’t get on the field Sunday. Another key special teamer, Daren Bates missed with an illness. Most of the time players with an “illness” designation return to practice relatively quickly, but given the Dennis Kelly experience earlier in the year, I won’t rule anything out. Missing both Bates and Cruikshank would be troublesome for the Titans coverage units. Those two guys are frequent playmakers in the third phase. In better news, Derrick Morgan was a limited participant on Wednesday after missing the Cowboys game with a shoulder injury. It would be a good sign for his availability if he’s able to get a full practice or two in before the end of the week. The Titans didn’t miss him too much against Dallas as they tallied 5 sacks in the second half Malcolm Butler Jersey , but having another quality pass rusher on hand to chase Tom Brady is always helpful.Tajae Sharpe was also limited in practice with an ankle injury that he suffered in pregame Monday night. He ended up playing a heavy complement of snaps in the game without aggravating the injury so he’s likely going to be able to go on Sunday barring a setback. Even though he’s more than likely going to be available, it might behoove the Titans to call up either Roger Lewis or Devin Ross off the practice squad to boost the numbers at wide receiver. If Taylor can’t go — which seems pretty likely at this point — it would leave them with just four healthy wide receivers on Sunday, including one with a somewhat gimpy ankle. Finally, Will Compton was a full participant as he gets back in the mix after missing time with a hamstring injury. His availability will be important if Bates can’t go for whatever reason as he’s another special teams contributor. As for the Patriots, they seem to be a team getting healthier at the moment. Guard Shaq Mason, running back Sony Michel, and tight end Rob Gronkowski all made limited appearances on Wednesday. Michel (knee) and Gronkowski (ankle/back) both had limited sessions last week before sitting out their game against the Packers so they could still end up deciding to let those guys rest through their Week 11 bye. Mason did not practice all of last week and missed the game so his limited showing marks an improvement for him.The Patriots injury report is always long, but often veteran guys like Dont’a Hightower are listed as limited all week before ultimately playing every Sunday. I would keep an eye on Mason, Michel, and Gronkowski, but they otherwise seem to be a healthy football team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off an impressive 27-9 wire-to-wire win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. The team will remain home this weekend and host their division rival Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Panthers won the first matchup of the season 42-28 back on November 4th.Outside of the horrendous defensive performance on defense that day for Tampa Bay Beau Allen Jersey , Mike Evans also had his worst game of the season matching up against James Bradberry. Evans finished that game with one reception for just 16 yards. It was certainly an uncharacteristic day for Evans and he spoke to the media today about Bradberry and what he needs to do different this Sunday. “Like I said, they game-planned really well. Even though they’re a one-high team, it felt like Eric Reid was just coming to me no matter what. And then [James] Bradberry was underneath just pressing that,” Evans said. “So I’ve got to be better, more physical, faster and stronger, and I think I will be this time around.”While Evans had a down game, he has been nothing short of fantastic this season for the Buccaneers. He is currently fifth in the league in receiving yards with 1,073 and up to this point is having his best statistical season in terms of yards. This past weekend he became only the third player in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards in his first five seasons Ryan Jensen Jersey , joining A.J. Green and Randy Moss. In terms of yards, this has been his best start to any season. Evans commented on the success he has had through the teams first 11 games. ”Statistically, yeah. Maybe not the touchdowns; I had double digits twice, I think. Those years I was getting easier ones on the goal line and in the red zone. This year I’ve got to score from further out because I get doubled a lot in the red zone. But I think this is my best year in terms of route-running and my ability to take the top off a defense.”Last week was the teams first complete game all season on both sides of the ball and it is something that has been stressed throughout the year, according to Evans.”Dirk always preaches on playing complementary football, and when the defense plays well it gives us confidence like, ‘Alright, we’ve got to hold up our end of the bargain.’ I think we did that last week and we’re looking forward to doing that again this week,” Evans said.Evans will look to bounce back against Bradburry and the Panthers this weekend and further push himself towards a pro bowl vote. The Buccaneers have had a disappointing season, one that could end in the firing of coach Dirk Koetter. (Especially since Koetter likely would have been replaced by Jon Gruden last year Chandler Catanzaro Jersey , but for the intervention of Mark Davis and the Raiders.) Quarterback Jameis Winston was asked on Thursday whether he’s fighting for his coach to keep his job.“Yeah, I鈥檓 always fighting for my head coach,鈥?Winston said, via JoeBucsFan.com. 鈥淓very week I think we all are. We got a lot of respect for that man. He holds us to high standards, and we got to hold ourselves to those standards.”Winston also said that the Bucs “still control our destiny.” If he’s referring to playoff destiny, he’s wrong — and not simply because no one controls their destiny. The Bucs, if they win out, won’t automatically secure a playoff spot. They need help to get there.
